Scunthorpe Bowls Club was created in 1919 and originally named the St Lawrence Games Club by St Lawrence’s Church on Church Lane, in Scunthorpe for the returning servicemen from the Great War. The idea was to provide a sporting venue where people could play bowls and enjoy the social side of the game. It proved a great success and in April 1935 the club opened their new Jubilee Pavilion. However in the Autumn of 1937 the club was forced to leave its green on Church Lane and relocate. Land was acquired on Lloyds Avenue and the Pavilion was moved to its new home. The club still continues with its remit of being open to anyone from the local community to join and/or to play bowls.
